Now that I have a printout of "Life through Cellophane" to edit then put away and the Wendy Dunn interview of me is safely webbed, I can look at my July and August schedules for the more public side of self. This is what I told myself an hour ago. It was a mistake.
First up in July is the Quiz Night. 9 July and I still have spaces at my table. If there is only a small table we get more bubbly between us. The thing that is bugging me is that several friends have indicated interest without actually saying "I am coming". We really, really need someone who knows sport and maybe someone who knows music (I know I don't know either, but I don't know about the others).
Then comes quality time with ailing parents, followed by Continuum. I am on panels on Cordwainer Smith and research and King Arthur and Australian fiction, from memory. Don't trust my memory, though.
I asked who wanted me to do what for my reading slot and the unanimous request was my story from Andromeda Spaceways Inflight Magazine #17. The good thing about reading about calling up a demon is that no-one is going to ask me the technique. Which might happen in August.
After Continuum two evening courses begin - one on the Templars and the Cathars and the Grail (the *real* Templars and Cathars and Grail, not the Dan Brown version!!) and the other is a joyous romp through food history. We start with Ancient Rome and then work through the Middle Ages, the Renaissance and Court delicacies in the French Enlightenment. Where we end depends on what the class wants: it might be North American colonial; it might be the Blitz; it might be something else entirely. How many cuisines we cover depends on the class and their interests. One thing is for certain, and that is the Middle Ages. Though really, nothing is for certain, since it all depends on enrolments.
July will be a nice, quiet month, as you can see.
August is busier. (Sarcasm? Never heard of it.)
There will be the remnants of the July courses, plus two professional education courses (workplace diversity, and leadership for women - I adore teaching the leadership for women course - it is my top favourite of all the professional education courses).
Throughout the month is the Think.com online writing festival. This is world-wide and is going to be something truly special. I will also be teaching a half-day workshop on medieval magic at the ACT Writers' Centre.
I think that is all my public stuff for the next two months. If anything else comes up, I will be sure to post about it simply because this sort of post is annoying. I like annoying people - a fun hobby and much better than morris dancing.
