Today was a day for cups of tea served to relatives and Mum's friends. I was in evil-gossip mode and at one stage my poor, benighted mother (having me for a daughter can be a trial) had to forcibly change the subject. She missed the moment when my cousin admired my one-liners. Should I be relieved at this?

Spent a happy few minutes this evening chatting with a friend of my sister's about the difference between the cultural Arthurs and the historical Arthur. And I missed Dr Who due to the unexpected advent of a long, long discussion of important issues with my niece. We are now pretty certain we know the relative importance of Trudi Canavan and Sean McMullen in our reading lives, but need to read The Innocent Mage as a matter of urgency to find out where Karen Miller fits in the spectrum. I still don't understand how my niece can never have read anything by Neil Gaiman. She hasn't read anything by Richard Harland either, but getting to a reading by him is one of her priorities for the coming weekend simply because I described his particular reading style. Since all her priorites have to be negotiated with three other people, we will see what happens.
