Aug. 19th, 2005 09:35 pmIf anyone who has seen me these last two months is wondering if my feet have returned to the ground the answer is, finally, probably. I emerged from my strangely dazed self on Wednesday night. I found myself with a new character and plot and a whole bunch else for either a book or a series of linked stories. Last time this happened I wrote a novel in a terrifyingly short period of time. This time I wrote the first 500 words and then started making notes about where it was going to go. This is not the novel I am researching currently - it is all geekish and superheroish and feminine (my research is for an alternate fantasy Middle Ages - translating historical knowledge into writable constructs). Obviously my mind was working on it when it was supposed to be doing things like grocery lists. I am suddenly content and not restless at all. This is why I write.
I had a fabulous Wednesday and Thursday, if one excepts the computer ick. The computer ick is not entirely solved, but it is kind of under control. There are outstanding problems but overall I can mostly work: my computer is mimicking life.
My Leadership for Women course produced a very quiet bunch of women, but very articulate and bright and thoughtful. They were a total pleasure to teach.
The Thursday night course was also fun. Before my printer and then computer problems, I managed to print the game for Thursday, so we spent two hours playing a 'Cathar life' board game. Much more fun than a lecture, given last night was all about daily life and ordinary lives. It took most of Sunday to put together, so lecturing and handouts and thingies would have been easier from my end, but it was worth it for the giggles and smart alec comments and the students enjoying themselves. I do love it when I can get adults to remember that learning doesn't always have to be serious. A Sunday well spent, I would say.
And that is my missing two days.
I have to admit, a computer breakdown is not so bad on a day when you leave home at 7.40 am and arrive back at 8.40 pm - less energy to worry. My friends were really cool about coming to my assistance, so I was not left to struggle alone.
The result of the two very long days was pretty inevitable: I had to spend most of today in bed. The bits I didn't spend working on my computer or planning my novel or my next book review or resting were spent buying chocolate and dried figs. I also ended up buying coverings for the furniture (bargain priced and comfortable - my loungeroom looks less like a second hand store and more as if it was planned) and with two nice bottles of superbly yummy cordials (lime and anise - I have wicked plans for the anise). I should not have gone mad in those two shops, but it made me very happy. I was celebrating the fact that I haven't had a pain reliever since Tuesday.
I think I am due an early night though!!
