Lots of wonderful news, which is good because my virus-y thingie is clinging as only virus-y thingies know how. Some of it will have to wait until contracts are done, but one rather lovely thing I can share: http://www.copperfieldreview.com/interviews/Polack.htm Thank you Wendy Dunn.

Welcome to any Carnivalesque people who have wandered outside the designated posts out of curiosity. I am an historian (honest, truly - I have a PhD hidden away somewhere) and a writer (also honest and truly). The reason I am blogging so much about fiction and so little about history right now is because I am in a writing period. Go back a bit and you will find the fiction and history change proportions.

For the normal habitues of this blog, Carnivalesque 11, hosted by Blogenspiel is here: http://blogenspiel.blogspot.com/2005/12/carnivalesque-11.html Doubters please note that I have been deemed 'literary' and since Medievalists are *always* right, I must be literary.

And now I plan to spend the rest of the afternoon doing my usual Carnivalesque thing and following all the links.

John Scalzi has accepted a story of mine for his issue of Subterranean Magazine next year. It contains a time machine, a Medievalist, the Song of Roland and a Communist mathematician.

Did I manage to sound all kinds of demure when I said all that? I was going to hang off telling people until the contract stuff was done, but in the last half hour I have seen three other people blog about their stories. This is the cause of the big happiness I mentioned earlier. As opposed to the delight of Carnivalesque (I *do* like Carnivalesque, and my blog being in it is a bonus) and the small joy of an interview republished.

For those who count stories written by women in Australian magazines, I am very sorry. I have skewed your count yet again.
