I am too busy watching Babylon 5 to write anything terribly serious tonight. I keep thinking that the writing is often from a Jewish viewpoint - where you are forced to be slightly outside and consider things from a new angle. The new angles of back then seem just so dreamy-idealistic now. In the world of Babylon 5 refugees are treated with dignity. Mind you, the episode I am watching right now has a rabbi with a European accent. Most rabbis I know have Australian or US accents. I do love it that even on Babylon 5 a ton of cultural inferences can be signified by an accent.

I am so besotted by accents, sorry. When I was a kid I used to want to be like the guy in Pygmalion, who could tell what street someone was brought up. Alas, my accent-memory is shocking, so I will never be a Higgins.

I am rediscovering just how many old SF jokes there are in Bablyon 5. I especially like Walter Koenig as Bester, a telepath. Jokes within jokes.
