Entirely joyous
Feb. 23rd, 2006 04:33 pmI am rather more than a happy little vegemite, thanks to the wonderful folks of Queensland. Some of you know how miserable I was because my finances just didn't run to Conjure. It wasn't just that it is the national convention, it is that the people running it also do amazing things like Envision, Clarion South and a bunch more, and I admire their work. Anything they organise is going to be outstanding. Conjure also has Cory Doctorow and Bruce Sterling and I was resigned to yearning from a distance and bugging all my friends for reports about it.
Well, the organisers have offered me a workshop and sent me a lovely letter of invitation. This covers some of my costs. I have jumped up and down and said 'yes' and now have to find the rest of the money. Kate has sent me a letter I can use to ask for funding with, and various other people are helping me find what can be found. But I am going. Somehow. I am going.
Not only am I going, I am giving a workshop on one of my favourite subjects. Medieval stuff for fiction writers. Three whole hours of teaching people I like and a subject I love. And then the whole of Conjure to revel in.
To put icing on the cake, if I go there from Melbourne I still get first night Passover with my family.
Gotta go now and sing the vegemite song very, very quickly and three times over, to save my walls from being bounced off.
