I took off this afternoon to visit a friend. We drank ouzo and tea and I stayed for dinner. These are two of my favourite people and we had a happy time talking about everything from blogging to conspiracy theorists. The weekend is going to be a tad busy, starting at an unholy hour tomorrow morning (radio interview) and finishing with my cool Medieval workshop on Sunday. I am *so* glad I took the afternoon and early evening off. Now I have 1000 words to write before bed. I love this kind of day.

Whether women were supposed to have souls in Medieval Christianity is one of those things that return and return when people are fretting at notions of Medieval religion until they fade and fray and shred and make no sense. This is a summary of how the idea developed. http://www.firstthings.com/ftissues/ft9704/opinion/nolan.html

What fascinates me about quite a few of the really idiotic assumptions of Medieval thought or life is that quite a few of them appear to have developed around the same time. I can't help thinking that one of the major developments in the Arthurian tales from the same time as this wondrously absurd view of the Middle Ages grew was that Tom Thumb was published in chapbooks as a knight of King Arthur.

And this was my useless thought of the day.
