Today is a things-don't-work day. My video is dying and nothing from it shows on the TV screen. I have no functional clock and I *was * using the video clock, but the electricity people asked me to turn my machines off at the power point so they could cut down a tree (which didn't get cut) and now the video won't show the time. My CD drive is on strike and won't write. My laser printer is on strike and won't print. My scanner is only sometimes on strike, as is my cute emergency printer. The worst of these last week was the printer, because I was forced to print zillions of pages on my baby inkjet and to do it at times when my inkjet permitted. This week the worst is the CD drive because I wanted to take CDs with me of my work - backup will be slower and more incomplete without it. Next week my problem is the video. Dr Who and Stargate and Boston Legal, to be precise. I can't ask friends to record them, because even if they do, I can't *watch* them on my machine.

It must be winter. Aggregate breakdowns always equals winter.

This post is not a whinge, BTW. It's a statement of the sad. I have housesitting and I have blogsitting and I have friends over tomorrow and I am writing for a week. The big things are all just fine.

I forgot this week's gratuitous advertisement. If anyone would like to host the Aussie Speculative Fiction Carnival on their blog (no need to be Australian or in Australia) then we need hosts for any month after October this year. Pick your month and email me, or post here, or email philologa(at)gmail(dot)com, who is suffering greatly from neglect and tells me she may have to sulk.

If you have questions I will get to them as soon as I can, promise. The one question I will answer with no prompt whatsoever, is that yes, you may host the carnival as many times as you wish. Or should I say please, host it again?
