Jul. 11th, 2006 05:42 pmI was going to write something witty and illuminating but I opened my fridge before I did so. A piece of cheese stared out at me mournfully and a small array of chutneys and pickles and preserves. Enough milk for tea tonight and coffee tomorrow morning. Some rather nice cream. Nothing else.
Wit has entirely been replaced in my mind by shopping lists and dreams of food.
My first list consisted of lots of different leafy green vegetables. Cos lettuce, broccolini, maybe an iceberg lettuce, definitely some brussel sprouts (because I have garlic that needs to be sauted with them, which means I really need butter - though olive oil would do), mint and Continental parsley (for tabouli, of course, which means shallots or white onions on the list as well, and some tomatoes and lemons), rosemary (to go with onion, garlic, balsamic vinegar and lemon and olive oil in my newest-favourite chicken dish), coriander because then I can make winter-warming rice porridge with garlic and chilli oil and mustard greens (if I buy mustard greens). Then I started pondering the possibility of schnitzel made with almond coating (instead of flour or breadcrumb) and served with a cherry sauce to go with a rocket and warrigal and balsamic vinegar salad.
Then I screwed up that list because it involved too many choices. I realised how close the nearest chocolate shop is. The nice chocolate place in Katoomba pointed out that if you melt 300 ml of really good cream with really good chocolate then you get really good chocolate sauce. I was thinking it would be even nicer with a dash of Chamber's Walnut Muscat. I do have chocolate, but when Trudi visited she suggested I need better chocolate in my cupboard. My current chocolate is too compound. So it's incumbent upon me to create a new list beginning "dark couverture". It will probably end "dark couverture" too, since I need to pour that sauce over *something*. And yes, I have PMT. How did you guess?
Maybe I need a shopping companion to save me from myself?
