My time out is all finished and I am settling down to things Medieval this afternoon.

Despite the heat (and a neighbour leaving the security door open, so my flat was flooded with hot air instead of being protected by a nice cool stairwell) I had a lovely morning. I went to see my friends dance and then we all adjourned to the cafe where we were serenaded by two cups of coffee and a coffeepot. The coffeepot was disappointed when Lesley said it was too hot to do the tarantella. (no, this was not a surreal experience - but the costumes the street-performers wore were rather good, as was their grasp of crucial Italan words such as pizza and pasta. They used their immense Italian vocabulary - in time honoured fashion - instead of regular lyrics).

We came home via Blundell's Cottage because one of the dancers needed a lift there. In a moment of sheer good fortune we were treated to the sight of a bullock team yolked in the nineteenth century fashion and ready for work. We didn't get out the car to admire, because it was just too hot and too lunchtimeish and too windy. Instead we admired the Captain Cook waterjet as it spread a rainbow across the lake. Even by the lakeside thins were dusty and a bit smokey.

October is far too early for this weather. I will be diluting my afternoon in the Middle Ages with iced lemon myrtle tea and pretending that it's February, I think.

Tomorrow chez [livejournal.com profile] nrm1970 - though I would wait till Monday to check it out because when the Carnival falls on a weekend it tends to run a day late. Besides, Philologa's correspondents haven't sent her any links for Nicole to put up. If you have been part of or seen any interesting blogging on Australian speculative fiction this last month, make sure you send them to Philologa (if she gets more lonely I might have to find her a dating service) at philologa(at)gmail(dot)com just as soon as soon as.
