May. 12th, 2007 04:40 pmToday is all about Superman (various versions), chummous, and postgraduate theses. Same with yesterday, except that the chummous was replaced by medlar liqueur and an entirely different thesis was under discussion.
It's obviously the year for discussing the research of others, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. For one thing, the more of this I do the more I realise I ought to one day get a regular academic type job. I do enjoy the teaching side of things and I really get a kick out of helping people learn about their own possibilities and reach their potential.
I guess this means I have to beat the health thing just a bit faster :). If I don't, I'll have to give up writing fiction, and that would be unthinkable.
While I'm thinking of teaching (and because several people asked for reminders of courses), here's what's going to happen in May and June (not the stuff already underway).
Thursday 17 May - a daylong course on writing for the web. Enrolments have to be in by Tuesday (ANU Centre for Continuing Education).
Saturday 19 May 9 am-12 pm - history for writers. Three hours covering the basics. I'll be doing an extended (2 day) version of this course in Sydney in July. We already have enough people so the course will go ahead, so the Writers Centre (6262 9191) will take phone enrolments right up to 4.30 pm Friday.
Saturday 9 June-Monday 11 June - I'll be at Convergence in Melbourne. I'm giving a talk on Ancient Foods and will be on panels. I suspect there will be chocolate in my vicinity. I intend to make many bad jokes.
Saturday 16-Sunday 17 June - 2 days of world creation at the ACT Writers Centre.
Saturday 23 June - workshop on recreational blogging.
And now I think it's time for some more Superman.
