Welcome - and the art of avoiding Gillian
Jul. 25th, 2007 06:09 pmI just discovered a bunch of new flist folks. Welcome, everyone. If you read my blog for a particular reason (the Middle Ages, fiction, writing, rude comments about mutual friends, food, the joys of living in Canberra, teaching) and you don't see enough of your favourite topic, feel free to ask for more. I need to make it very clear that the Bad Taste Movie night I'm attending on Saturday is an exception to this - I refuse to see an unlimited number of bad taste movies, even to make my blogfriends happy.
While I remember (not related to welcomes or to bad taste movies), I need to give everyone a brand new list of places to avoid if you don't want to see me for the next few weeks.
Write Your Own Wizards - a 2 hour course for young adults this Saturday, through the Canberra Writers' Centre. A very medieval approach to the subject (with better Latin than JK Rowling) - which doesn't mean you shouldn't avoid it, of course.
Bad Taste Movie Night - a fundraiser for Conflux - Saturday night. I don't know the details, but I believe I am supplying dolmades and negus. The dolmades are tinned (alas) because I can't cook and teach at the same time, but the negus is a recipe from 1806.
Conflux dressmaking session - worth going to just to see me look entirely helpless. I have gorgeous material and hope somehow it will turn into a dress. Either my Medieval magic or my friends' sewing skills might have to step in. Open to Conflux members only, I think.
Conflux Minicon - 4 and 5 August. The hour to avoid is from 9 pm Saturday, I believe (after Dr Who!). The hours *not* to avoid are the rest of it - some really awesome writers on a free internet forum, answering all sorts of difficult questions. Which reminds me, I was going to think up some truly tough questions and see how many writers I could persuade to hate me. The list of writers is here and the details will be there soon, too.
You don't have to worry about avoiding me in August - I'll be mostly at home, writing.
