I've been thinking of ways to handle this incipient ordinariness and I've decided that the answer is Fanny Burney. I shall quote her at unpredictable intervals between now and the Regency Gothic Banquet. Think of it as scene-setting.

I have her selected letters and journals and the main reason I've never quoted her before is because every time I open them at random, I don't want to stop reading long enough to type. This is why I'm only promising extracts at random intervals.
