Today's menu is a cheese platter with quince thingie and crackers, pretzels and those bright bright miniature eggplants. After that comes Italian rolls or pizza filled or topped with whatever my guests want, from an array of delectables. I've put pure chocolate (unsweetened, un-Dutch methoded) into the mix, but realised that I gave the same friends ancestral cucumbers last year, so those are in the fridge. If they yearn for them, I can get them out, though. Dessert is just chocolate and nuts and things, because this is the first of many meals with friends at Conflux (the only one I'm preparing though).

And my morning 's just been re-arranged. In between one paragraph and the next. The postie came. He got a good long look at my legs, because I'm still wearing a giant t-shirt. This new parcel delivery person normally races off, but this time he stopped and told me "You have two parcels." It's the big one that's changed my morning. Five more things to read for Aurealis (this is GOOD, just badly timed) and I have other stuff to do next week, so now I must finish with 2 of them before my guests come. This is not such a bad thing, cos the only food prep left to do for lunch is grind coffee and all the rest is housework and I am in desperate need of a cuppa.

Trudi and Paul and Russell and Donna have gone on to a book signing, Nicole and Graham have gone respectively to meet planes and to sort out the vagaries of Australian time, Karen has arrived (but I won't see her till tomorrow) and Emma has arrived and unpacked into my library. I have sorted my chocolates and they're all ready for distribution to willing and hungry souls from tomorrow morning. Tonight I prepare my teaching notes for tomorrow's class. Conflux has unofficially begun.

D'you think anyone would notice if I snuck an extra episode of Buffy before I write those teaching notes. I am *so* tired...

PS Does anyone want surnames? I have plenty to give out. All the ones I didn't use in this post are free to a good home.
