Jan. 5th, 2008

Days ago I meant to post this, in lieu of a considered reflection on last year. Days ago. If I'm not careful it will be the end of 2008 before I start thinking of what I want to do with the year!

My blogyear in first paragraphs of the month.

1st January, 2007. 10:53 pm.
Everyone is so serious round me. They want to take resolutions and good intentions and brave ambitions into the New Year. This is a good thing. In fact, this is a very good thing. Laudable and worthy.

1st February, 2007. 6:19 pm.
My mind is turning to teaching.

1st March, 2007. 4:39 pm.
Jane Routley and her alter ego (Rebecca Locksley) are both guests in the ASiF Forum . Jane needs saving from me, I think. Since most other people are being quiet I am taking advantage of her niceness and asking her imbecilic questions.

1st April, 2007. 12:51 pm.
If my father hadn't taken sides in an ugly 1940s divorce my name would now be Gillian Roudner. We thought the family name was Rudin, but my genealogically-minded brother-in-law checked the Cyrillic on my great-grandfather's passport and has just emailed me to say that Rudin was the Australianised version. Isn't that life-changing?

1st May, 2007. 12:30 pm.
I've done all my teaching preparation. In an hour I leave for a meeting about the York/writing tourthing, then I photocopy my handouts for my students, then I quietly look at my notes and think "Damn, I left such and such at home." Then I teach. It's exciting stuff.

1st June, 2007. 6:58 pm.
My burning question of the day is if I buy milk tomorrow or just wait til Monday. Tomorrow I'm carrying a big backpack of books, you see. I'm teaching the "History for Writers" workshop, and I can't demonstrate historiography without books.

3rd July, 2007. 12:24 am.
I just had a wonderful weekend. I intended to blog about it in detail tonight, but I got home at 10 pm and haven't quite caught up on my email even. I will catch up on my email and then I shall sleep. I rather suspect that I shan't catch up on everything that happened - I was only away 3 days but the world seems to have got on without me somewhat frenetically. Anyhow, hang in there and you might just hear about the joys of cemeteries and of shopping trips. The big thing is that I finally feel I've had time out - I only saw four friends, but my weekend with them was happy and relaxed (except for poor Chris who got me in medieval mode) and something I have needed for a while. I might have to add this 'time out' thing to my life more frequently. I'm not quite so enthusiastic about the dinner at 10.30 pm. though.

1st August, 2007. 11:21 pm.
I'm coming down with the same lurgy half Canberra has and I'm not worried yet (though I ought to be). No, I'm entirely concerned about other things. Haunted pizza, for one . A lovely ayurvedic scent a student gave me today, for another. My food history competition, for a third (some of you were going to send me entries, if I remember correctly - you still have 3 days).

1st September, 2007. 1:08 pm.
I can't access LJ right now from my home machine, so please forgive me if posts are slow in coming for a few days. Right now I'm sneaking onto Donna's computer while she works on my Regency banquet costume.

1st October, 2007. 1:06 am. Conflux #3
Today we got a late start because I am a lazy sod. Tomorrow I'll make the 9 am panel, promise. Tomorrow I'll be the best zombie at the 9 am panel, also promise.

1st November, 2007. 12:03 pm.
Today is the day of fascinating advertisements. Heraldry Australia Inc (I love it that there's a Heraldry Australia Inc.) has asked me to pass one on to interested parties and I *know* that includes at least three people on my flist, so I'm pasting the information below. The other one I'll put up in an hour or two, or maybe tomorrow. It's to do with my special corner of Conflux.

1st December, 2007. 3:24 pm.
Today we have a pause in the weather. Gentle rain. Pleasantly overcast skies. A glorious lack of impending storms.
