Jan. 31st, 2008 05:32 pmYou know your health has decided to improve when you keep falling asleep. Today I finished half a book review and then was photographed before that happened*, but it did happen. As it did yesterday. I feel totally stupid for falling asleep, but I do get interesting dreams and I feel closer to being a human being after each nap.
Tonight I finish the book review and maybe do some writing. Also some TV watching. Also possibly some more napping. See, my life is just a rollercoaster of excitement.
What I think what this is all about is me emerging from that extraordinarily period when so many friends' and some of my family's lives became a bit too exciting. There has only one crisis this week, and four resolutions of old ones.
The final tally is quite sobering. The worst aspect is the five deaths - all people who will be much missed. A large group of friends and relatives who have worked through their problems and faced down their major life decisions are meeting their futures. Another group of friends are dealing with things that are neither death nor life-changing, but serious enough, and are doing it with style. Only a very, very few are still waiting and watching for things to improve. All I can do for them is be there. And I can't do that all the time - I failed one friend the night before last.
These are all people I care for. All quite extraordinary, as are their lives. No wonder all sorts of ick was triggered at my end and no wonder I need to sleep now.
All isn't well, but all is on the way to being as much well as it can be. Thank you to all the friends who supported me while I supported others. For those who didn't feel up to the support thing recently, don't let it worry you - not everyone can be there every time we need them (patently I can't, for one) - you were dealing with your own life, which is always important.
Now it's time for me to heave a big sigh, admit that napping is a fine thing to do and allow more room for joy in life.
* In a Marx Brothers world I would have fallen asleep while the Canberra Times photographer was at work, of course. If any of you get the Sunday Canberra Times and don't hang on to it, I wouldn't mind spares of the article for my huge family, who seldom gets to own originals of these things but always wants to.
