Feb. 11th, 2008 08:08 pmMy brain is fumbling for words because I've got too much to say today and not quite enough time to say anything. I'll follow a time honoured blog tradition and obfuscate with an anecdote about something cute. Actually, it was someone cute. A friend from interstate dropped in unexpectedly (which is why the lack of time - but what a very good reason - it was wonderful to see her :) ). She brought her youngest daughter for me to meet.
Said daughter is at the impossibly gorgeous age. She was shy and hid her face. There was only one thing to do. I casually mentioned to her mother (three times) that there was a little shopping trolley on the floor behind me and that a child was needed to play with the objects contained therein. She crawled over to it (very low to the floor, so I wouldn't notice her) and proceeded to investigate very thoroughly.
S and I conversed as intelligently as two adults can converse when a crowing rooster is being thrown across the room and a clockwork chicken is wound up to run against almost everything in its way and an egg is dropped most heavily. Everything that could be wound was wound, from that chicken to the daisy pencil sharpener/fan. She played with everything that had flashing lights and named the colour lights over and over. The flashing lights had to be named, of course. Sometimes she got the colours right. Other times she agreed with me when I got the colours right. She used one of the flashing toys to magic my little Robin Hood teddy bear into doing really odd things.
Yes, I got involved, mostly in throwing the rooster and finding magical things for my teddy bear to do. I don't know about my friend or her child, but I had a lovely afternoon.
I will talk about actual introductions of actual characters in actual novels, since obviously there's a bunch of shared interest here. I'll do it when I feel like it though, not every day. And obviously not today, since I have succesfully obfuscated.
