Today's been all about the dentist. Because I was taking the morning off to see the dentist, I took lunchtime off to see a friend, then I took the afternoon off to nap because everything hurt so much I couldn't sleep last night.

I've still done a reasonable amount of work. When I realised that sleep was not going to come easily, I got out of bed and did some of that dull and necessary stuff that always hangs around. I also did some more teaching prep, since this week has enough teaching so that I could be guilty of a normal income if it happened this way every single week of the year.

I've sorted out that on Thursday I'm teaching historical fruit (as well as Medieval foodways), with fresh examples of heritage varieties from our local organic orchard. When I have the fruit in front of me, I'll do a cheat sheet for each variety, since my memory is so bad on these things. I might also be making bullace liqueur, since the friend I'm going a-fruiting with is of sound mind and has much culinary skill.

The other thing I've done is work out how to teach ranking methods and interpreting data and exactly what terms are essential to know and which ones are entirely swank. This is for my Saturday students (a one day class). This means all I really have to do is order my thoughts and decide just how many basics I can cover in 6 hours of teaching and one glamorous exercise. Which means in its turn that Saturday is 3/4 ready to go. I like it that there's a glamorous exercise - much better than a day of tables and weblinks.

I bought some research materials for my current novel (not in the middle of the night - that was in the gap between dentist and seeing my friend) and I'm happy to share the watching of them for anyone who has a burning need to watch the first 6 episodes of Flash Gordon or the first 12 episodes of Zorro's Foreign Legion or ... you get the picture. Maybe they can replace Fiddler on the Roof for Purim? A Zorro drinking game would be a fine thing to develop.

I was fine with the first two emergency visits to the dentist in six months. Now I've reached the stage where the state of my teeth (and jaw - I apparently have to see a specialist) makes me think of drinking games.
