None of you need reminding that the Conflux workshops are filling up and that you should book soon, do you? Or that it's cheaper to register for Conflux ahead of time than at the door? Or that the banquet won't be open to last minute bookings(the chef needs to order ingredients - bookings close a few days before)?
What I'm going to suggest is that anyone who hasn't quite sorted these things out goes to the
Conflux site, does it all now, then just sits back and relaxes for a few weeks. Progress report #3 is up there, too, so even non-Conflux goers may want to check the site out.
I keep getting hints about the program. Nicole is working on it furiously and it will be issued very soon. It's the best yet. Just as much for readers as writers. Some totally amazing and surprising stuff. Some fun and silly stuff. Some stuff just for Canberra SF fans (who are celebrating a major anniversary this year and will be a signficant presence). I know my panels and they're wonderful topics - no just listing books or saying the same old thing or agreeing on everything. Those of you who can't get to Conflux are going to curse that we're not podcasting this year.
On a related note, I've written that guest speech. I can't believe I've actually written a speech. (Mostly I talk off the cuff entirely or from notes.) It covers a lot of what we talked about here, but not in any of the ways you might expect. It's an I-reveal-my-deepest-secrets kind of speech. That's why it's all done and ready so very early. I hope I'm brave enough to deliver it.
ETA: It has come to my attention that some people might have ticked the "interested in banquet" box on the membership form and assumed that was their booking done. That only gave us an indication of your general interest so that we could get back to you if there were things to get back to you on - you'll have to go back and get the banquet form and pay some money to confirm your booking. Sorry about the confusion.
