I just discovered that I have more than 50 reviews up on the ASiF website. This is after a slow year when I've only written ten reviews. When did I pass fifty? Should I celebrate?

I keep feeling I did a bad interview this morning (Alex Sloan was good - she's always good, though - and the bloke on after me has invented an air driven car or engine or something equally amazing - I need to check this one out after Conflux) and everyone tells me they heard it. At least they're telling me, rather than hiding the fact shamefully. This means maybe I wasn't as bad as I thought.

I am still virus-driven and I still have a fine fever. I promised [livejournal.com profile] eneit I would have a rest this afternoon to try to get it beat and I only have two things left on my absolutely-must-do-or-else list for Conflux. Everything else ought not wait, but probably can.

My next post will be from Conflux!!

I'm determined to get the first Conflux post in, just because I can. This is mostly because I have worked out how to blog from my hotel room, so expect posts when I have time or when I am pretending to be resting, or when someone tells me something crucial that must be written down.

There are a surprising number of people here already. The committee/guest dinner was expanded to include several (which is what happened last year, too, at the committee/guest lunch). It was a bit big to get around and talk to people (which is a shame - I was hoping to have a good chat with Bruce and Cat and Liz - the first two because I haven't seen them in ages and the last because we have only ever emailed) so I stayed put at my end of the table. My end of the table was a good end, because it contained Karen and Bill and Tara. I only met Bill in the lift on the way down to meet for dinner. It was lucky I got to sit near him, because we had a great time. Well, I had a great time. I don't know if I bored the others silly or not.

Bill swam today. You need to know this. Bill Wright braved the Canberra cold and swam in the hotel swimming pool. None of the Canberrans booked into the hotel have even brought swimming gear, to the best of my knowledge. And he gave me permission to blog that he swam.

What else happened today? I mean, since this morning? Well, Tara was my valet and she and I think I might have gone a bit overboard in the amount of chocolate and sweets I have brought. She is personally taking an interest in helping diminish it and there is one lollipop the less. This is the same Tara who, a year ago, announced that "If Mum's the Chair, then I'm the footstool." In that year she has grown considerably and now I'm the perfect height for her to rest her weary head upon. One day I will work out how I manage to shrink to the perfect height for ten year olds and grow to the perfect height for eighteen year olds but never. ever manage to reach the top shelf of libraries.

Speaking of books, I have taken pity on one of you who wishes to be here. Sherwood, your book is here in your stead, as my unwind-reading. Now all you have to do is work out how to reach it telepathically and you can experience Conflux almost-first-hand.
