Nov. 18th, 2008 10:07 amI spent a lot of yesterday sorting papers (this is before I spent time feeling more than a little nauseous - it was not housework that did this to me, it was some sort of stomach bug). In my papers I found many reminders (how I deal with my own absent-mindedness - scribbled notes on 6X4 paper). One of those reminders said "YA author list."
This was to remind me to ask you: what young adult books (not just speculative fiction ones) would you recommend?
I have two groups of readers - one I'm seeing tomorrow and one on Saturday - and I promised them names. I can make my own list, but that will reflect my taste and knowledge only. My taste won't grow peoples' worlds nearly as much as a list that has your favourites as well.
The idea of the list is to show these students good writing. For some of them it's to make reading books achievable. Length is important. I don't want to recommend the Twilghts and Potters anyway, because every one of these students knows the mega-books, or at least about them. I want the best books at the shorter end, the Larbalestier and Westerfield and Nix end.
What are your favourite young adult books?
