My first father grew up in rural Victoria and his parents and one of my mother's parents lived many years in Victorian country towns. The region has always been my bastion of emotional sanity in an awry world. I'm not posting on the bushfires here because I have discovered there's a limit to how much crying one can do in a month. I posted on them over at my food history blog.

So, I'll be writing my usual types of posts, but it won't necessarily reflect what's happening inside. This isn't a big deal, but I thought you might like to know.

Bushfire update - even though I said I wouldn't. Just got news that all my close relatives are safe. One by the merest whisker (wind changed direction at the last second) but safe. Some friends are safe, others we haven't heard about yet.

ETA: The wonderful nurse who helped through the worst of Les' dying is fine and so is his wife, but they've lost everything. He's now working with critical burns patients.

And this really is the last of the updates.

I'm going to finish a piece of writing for Bruce Gillespie, I think. I need something positive and reaffirming. Although I admit it's a big reaffirmation that a bunch of people I care for are alive. Being alive is a very, very good thing.
