I have lots of notes about today but only ten minutes to post. I was exceptionally tired and so came home early, and what's the use in coming home early if I don't spend quality time with Mum watching Foyle's War? Dad will be with us in spirit, since it's his Yarhzeit. (for the confused, this is my birth-father, who died over twenty years ago, not my stepfather, who died this year)

So, what can I tell you in ten minutes?

I helped a little on the ASIM table today. People were asking me about Conflux more than anything else, though there were only two copies of Sue's book and only one of Masques by the time I left. The nicest people (mainly Ross and Emma) kept giving me things. Nice things and yummy things. Chocolate fish and aniseed myrtle and a pictoral map including fruit. Postcards and some rather wonderful bookmarks. Other people gave me things, too, but I have to admit, one can't go too far past chocolate fish and handmade bookmarks and bush herbs and maps.

I finally met Felicity Dowker and was (as always) very impressed with George Ivanoff's reading. George doesn't know it, but I sneak into his readings whenever I can (Sue didn't have to drag me, though it did look as if she did) because he has such a gorgeous reading voice. Sue read a story that contained miraculous Mars bars, which was funny, because I had Mars bars in my handbag, which I duly fed to people. Narelle Harris read on behalf of her husband - she did a good job, too. Altogether, a nice way to start the day.

I snuck in a little late for Chelsea Quinn Yarbro's guest of honour speech. She talked mostly about semi-immortals and how they make good fiction. My niece was wearing a dalek on her head, which distracted me from time to time, but it was a good speeech and not even a dalek-on-head could make me not listen. Not even sitting in a room where the ceiling breathes (in and out and in and out) could distract me, though I admit I did remark upon it.

My favourite lines of hers went something like this:

Editors said to Quinn (since 1976) "The vampire sub-genre is dead."

"I have consistently reminded them that vampires have no problem being dead."

I've run out of time. I think my reading went OK, though. All my panels are tomorrow. Some of my friends think I'm Evil. Some think I'm lovely. And Garth gloated that I haven't yet tripped him up.
