Indigenous Literacy Day
Aug. 24th, 2009 01:41 pmOne more announcement (thanks to Chris Bongers) and I'm back to normal.
September 2 is Indigenous Literacy Day. You can buy books at your favourite shops on that day and help regional communities build up their libraries. You can print out a lovely list of books to read (I did this instantly - this is my reading for September, I think). If you're lucky, there'll be an event at a local library. You can join the Great Book Swap.
Most of this is for Australians, obviously*, but the list of books is accessible to everyone. It includes one of my favourite books of all time, Patricia Wrightson's The Nargun and the Stars and books by one of my favourite poets, Oodgeroo. It also has lots of new authors. There's much good reading in it (and in my immediate future)!
*I just realised (and am adding it in as an afterthought) some of the bookshops are online. Just in case non-Aussies were yearning to read Sally Morgan (and everyone should be yearning to read Sally Morgan).
