Jan. 12th, 2010 11:43 pmSome bits of today were wonderful (Sharyn and Chris bought me lunch and all I did was fling bad books their way and hand over a bunch of work; Mum picked me up at the station and we spent a lovely evening just chatting); some were less so.
Let me sum up the less so, because it was an interesting set of circumstances. Between the ever-increasing heat and how much work I had to do before I could leave, i didn't get any sleep last night. I left home at 6 am and got to the bus stop and no-one knew a thing about V-line busses. A helpful Greyhound lady said "I've seen them here sometimes." Other passengers turned up and said I was in the right place, so I chatted with one of them and found that she like solving mysteries, but has read too many and now starts halfway through. She also underestimated my age, which made me want to frolic wit the joy of youth. Except I was dealing with lack of sleep, so I resisted frolic.
It was 7.18 when the bus left. Actually, 7.19, because the driver was so busy scolding the last comer for making us 3 minutes late, that we left four minutes late. I decided a nap was in order. I woke up from my nap rather the worse for wear. I *knew* we were heading into the weather-change. I had even packed extra tablets in case I got a migraine from the change. It was a full-body migraine and took much medicine. I enjoyed Sharyn and chris's company only because it is impossible not to (and besides, they understood weather migraines). They dealt with me as only they can.
They dropped me off and we discovered (fortuitously) that I was not catching the bus/train, but the regular train. This was not a good thing. Trains in 40 degree heat go slowly, you see and lo, mine did. I was *such* a mess by the time I reached Melbourne.
The migraine is gone, magically, and so has the heat. I caught up with the change, you see. I'm still not well, but, since I travelled for 14 hours and had a 12 hour migraine, I feel rather complacent.
I had a better blogpost for you, but since my headache ate it, you needed the whys and wherefores. I'll try for exotic tomorrow. Or silly. Or maybe educational.
