Apr. 16th, 2010 07:42 pmToday has been about getting big stuff done. It's also a moderate to high pain day. This means that today has also been about coffee with chicory and about balancing acts. If I can do just a few more hours work, I'll be fine for tomorrow. I have to clear my desk before I can join the Jane Austen Festival tomorrow (and give a talk) and take Sunday afternoon off. If the pain is still bad when I get home tomorrow, I shall take tomorrow night off too. Either way, letting work build-up so that next week is impossible is not a good idea.
This is me learning how to do the most important parts of what I was doing before (income! writing! finishing up projects!) and adding study to the mix. I'm doing some fun stuff. Tonight's work is partly finalising the outline for my talk tomorrow and mostly doing some substantial work on my research proposal. I have to explain, for instance, why Connie Willis hasn't (in her fiction) addressed the same issues I will be addressing in my fiction and why some of the very best historiography still doesn't quite explain what speculative fiction writers do with history. Or maybe it'll be something different. Until I sit down with everything in front of me and do the hard yards, I won't know for certain.
I ought to eat dinner sometime, as well.
I love getting things finished and sorted. It's going to be a good evening.
