Election Night in Canberra
Jul. 21st, 2010 01:20 pmI thought the National Tally Room was going to be closed down, last election, but I've just been told it will be open - which is a good thing, because it's a strange and wonderful place to be on Election Night. Does anyone in Canberra (or able to get to Canberra) want to go to the National Tally Room with me and hang around there for a bit on August 21?
We could go there early (impossible to avoid the crowds, but it would be good to avoid the super-big crowds) and then come back to my place for the rest of the count and do things in comfort. The National Tally Room is exciting, but not really comfortable - but who wants to be comfortable when you can stand behind the TV booths and read the autocues before the pundits?
A car would really help, but the whole thing can be done by bus if we're very patient and don't mind spending much time in travel.
I can put friends up overnight, if interstate people have dreamed of visiting the tally rooms. I have a double futon in my loungeroom and space for two more people on the floor of my library. I could feed us food from Women's Suffrage cookbooks. I also have medlar liqueur that's just demanding to be drunk. There is a liquor shop just across the road from me and many good foodish places within walking distance or who deliver.
Anyone interested?
