Today I've read three books, written an article and a half and edited another and sorted out more historic cookery. I was going to take time off and watch a DVD, but it had one of those lock things on it and I have no idea how to open it. I've also played with starmaps, thanks to Lara, and thought much about eclipses in 1305. I might also have sent my long-sufferring supervisor the latest draft of Aargh!

It wasn't till just now, though, that I looked at my to-do list and realised that most of it is still to-be-done. Too late. It's tomorrow already and I have plans to spend half the day pretending to be a normal human being with a social life.

The Australian election debate was one of the dullest I've seen. I'm beginning to understand why the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition agreed on a change of time, ceding to Masterchef. Mind you, the number of times "Fair Dinkum" was used about doubles its usage nationally over the last month.

What I find interesting about this election is the underlying sexism. The Wonderful Worldwide Web tells me that some channels had pink and blue worms, for audience opinions, instead of the usual colours. The marital status of the leaders is a voting issue, it seems, and so is the gender.

So far, this election is as unexciting as the debate. This is not a bad thing. It will all be over in a few weeks and maybe, if it's quiet enough, we will think through things rather than be carried along by rhetoric and hype. Though I could do without some of the total irrelevancies being thrown out in the name of negative campaigning. Nothing new in that. Nothing exciting in that. Nothing new in that. What an odd little election campaign Australia has had so far.
