(no subject)
Aug. 6th, 2010 09:03 pmToday was (almost thankfully) unexciting.
I've done a load of washing and arranged a meeting and sorted out a logistical problem for the novel and am up to 18 books of the 36 I need to have done before the end of August. Halfway there.
I might have read enough to be able to actually tidy my loungeroom next week. I so need to tidy my loungeroom. It is the opposite of a visitor-friendly zone. Worth it, though, to not have all those books to read. More will come and are even on the way. This is my life as it was before I became ill. I like it this way. I just can't afford to fall behind right now. Last time I fell behind and travelled (last weekend!), I had to take work with me and I have quite enough to do in Melbourne without taking research down south.
Besides, I absolutely need to get the number of books down so that I can keep them off the coffee table and off the lounge and off at least one chair. That way, when friends drop in, I don't entirely tangle what I'm doing. I operate through piles and stacked and careful layers (structured mess, is what I call it, when I'm trying to impress) and when friends come round they seem to pile one thing on top of the other, instinctively. "Let me clear this chair," they sometimes say, but mostly they sort stuff before I realise and it's too late and all I can do is thank them. Using my main living space as my main office space and my main study space can be a trifle complicated on occasion. Getting things out of the way and keeping up to date is a control measure, really.
