Sep. 22nd, 2005 12:14 amNot all writers watch the news. Not all writers are conscious of others' needs. Given how close Rita is to Katrina, this particular writer might also lack some basic common sense. He/she sent a query to XXXX Publishing on 8 September and wanted an answer today. Today, as I have already blogged, is the day Hurricane Rita has made her presence known. This is what XXXX Publishing replied (copied with permission):
Dear XX,
Your email from September 8 is in my in-box. I have not yet had a chance to review it, nor do I expect to for quite some time. XXXX Publishing is a Louisiana company which relocated to Texas in April; we have experienced severe business issues, not to mention personal ones, in the wake of the hurricane that struck New Orleans at the end of August. In addition, there is another major hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico. The path projected by the National Hurricane Center shows a line drawn directly over our location. We are currently dismantling everything we can in preparation for evacuating to Little Rock, Arkansas. I suggest you submit to another publisher; at present, it does not appear likely that XXXX Publishing will survive Hurricane Rita.
Thank you for your concern.
Sincerely yours,
PS The publisher has no problems with being known, but hates spam. Given the whole thing needs alcohol to get through, I have given them the name of a popular Australian beer instead. Although right now strong liquor really looks preferable to beer.
