I am in the middle of intricate negotations.
Some of you know I'm not spending Jewish New Year with my family. This is not because I don't want to see my family or that my family is sick of the sight of me. It's because I have travelled a tad too much recently and the flu I *still* have is because my body is telling me stuff.
Mum accepted with equanimity that I'm not there for the Holy Days. This just shows how very tired I must have looked at Continuum.
What's happening now is working out when I *can * come down. The family says "Anytime". Last time I took them at their word, they went away sequentially and all my friends were away and I house-sat Mum's place and wrote for a few days. Which was a fine thing to do, but not what I had planned.
This time I want to see my Melbourne friends and I want to spent *lots* of time aggravating my family. This means they need to *be* there. The complex negotiation is getting anyone to admit their summer plans so I can book tickets.
My question to Melbourne friends who read my blog (and you can reply by email or phone if you don't want the whole world to know your summer plans): is there any time from late December to early February that suits you?
If I can't pin down a time I may just stay in Canberra over summer, since Canberra's summer is nicer than Melbourne's. If I stay here though, none of you will see me till Passoverish. My visit will be much more fleeting with much less quality time for friends, too, simply because I will have to fit things in between teaching.
I do hope that makes sense.
