Found my book. Finished that bit of work. Don't I feel consciously virtuous :). I've even put fifteen books away.

I managed to terrify a poor innocent writer, too. He plucked up the courage to email me to say "Hi". We hadn't met, but we have interests and people and a sense of humour in common and it was nice of him to write. His timing was slightly imperfect, however. In my reply I explained I was reviewing his two books .. soon. No-one wants to hear that from an email saying 'hi.'

In fact, he is 2/3 of my academic reviews. And I couldn't tell him if they would be positive or negative or something in between because I haven't quite got to them yet. And if he's reading this, I'm truly sorry. I'm also amused. It's one of those sad, sad things that happen to all of us. And besides, I got my comeuppance: I *always* get my comeuppance.

No, I'm not going to explain *how* I got my comeuppance. Surely it's enough that I got it. I'll tell you what, if you *really* want to know, you can make it up. That's what the comments section is for. Go for it.
