I may do a real post later. Or I may not. While you wait - holding your breath and with your jaw slightly open in anticipation - here's something most of you will want to know about.

Literary awards want to know what people think
The general public are being encouraged to go online and nominate their favourite works of Australian speculative fiction as part of a revamped national awards ceremony for 2007.
Australia’s premier literary awards for adult, young adult and children’s speculative fiction, the Aurealis Awards, have announced the appointment of a new Awards Director and launched a new website as part of a range of changes introduced to ensure the relevance and transparency of the awards.
Newly appointed Awards Director Ron Serdiuk said it was this spirit of change which caused them to redesign the website - www.aurealisawards.com.
He said the new website was designed to make understanding and participating in the awards process a simple and streamlined affair.

... stuff snipped because otherwise I have to hide it behind a cut and snipping is easier....

“Many other literary awards depend solely on publishers or editors nominating works, but we want our judges to consider as broad a range of works as possible,” he said.
He said that the Aurealis Awards considered all Australian works, including those sent in by major publishing houses as well as works from smaller independent publishers and even webzine content.
“This is about finding the best eligible works and showing that the Aurealis Awards recognise the incredible talents and achievements of Australian writers working in the fields of science fiction, fantasy, horror and young adult and children’s fiction,” Mr Serdiuk said.

The trick is to nominate things or bug publishers until *they* nominate things. I would like it if I were superhuman (as a judge) and knew everything about every single Australian work, but I don't and I can't. And right now we only have one young adult nomination.

Maybe I won't do another post today. Maybe I'll free up your time to think about what 2007 Australian works you have read or will read and that need to be in the running for the Aurealis. This means you can shut those jaws, if you want.
