Jul. 13th, 2007 12:35 pmI'm up to my eyeballs in Medieval stuff for the weekend.
I'm going to have so much fun teaching the course in Sydney. I have the opening of a Sponsus to sing and also a bit of a Robin Hood pastourelle: if you don't think this is fun it's because you've not seen the texts in question :).
I have a copy of the Song of Roland and one Chrestomathie for the purposes of dramatic renditions. Or evil taletelling - depends on my mood. What I also have are forty pages of cheat sheets from work I've done in the area of the Medieval imagination, so we can talk about golems and fairies and epic legends. I have an Arthurian tarot and I have a list of dream motifs from the Book of Daniel. I have pictures of fairies (or rather, I have my set of pictures to teach people how to spot a fairy in the street). I also have the background to make sense of it all for my students (those forty pages again).
I have all this, but no underwear. I need to add underwear to my suitcase before I leave, I suppose. But it's not Medieval underwear, so it feels all wrong. Mind you, I saw a picture of Medieval peasant underpants yesterday and they *still* remind me of giant diapers.
Talking about picutres, I printed out lots of piccies, but they didn't work at all well. I'm taking them anyway. I also have them on disk, where they look perfectly wonderful.
Pity I can't teach immediately. Tomorrow. I have to wait till tomorrow. Maybe I'll read that Catherine Jinks book to pass the time. It's in my handbag; along with the Song of Roland, the Voyage of St Brendan and a chrestomathie.
