Does anyone want to watch a total lunar eclipse with me? It's on Tuesday night. An astronomer friend alerted me to it and pointed out it's at a reasonable hour, so I checked it up and lo, Lara was right.

I want to go to a mountaintop somewhere (Red Hill will do, or Mt Taylor - so we're talking about a ten minute drive) and see what can be seen.

I did some civilised datapunching on a website and it tells me the following:

August 28 2007

Moonrise 17:29
Moon enters penumbra 17:52.2
Moon enters umbra 18:50.9
Moon enters totality 19:52.0
Middle of eclipse 20:37.3
Moon leaves totality 21:22.7
Moon leaves umbra 22:23.8
Moon leaves penumbra 23:22.5

I was thinking that a picnic dinner would be a fine thing. I have a bottle of wine that can be drunk.

ETA: The bottle of wine and Donna and James and myself will all be on Red Hill, watching the eclipse. (The bottle of wine will get a particularly good view, I'm certain.) Please feel free to join us. BYO everything, so that if it's so dark you can't find us, you still get to eat dinner!

ETA 2: It's not your imagination, this post is shrinking :). I couldn't get the table to be readable, so I've deleted bunches of cool stuff so that at least the main timing points are visible.

My computer and I have had an interesting time tonight. The good news is that the updated CSFG bibliography is up, and it contains two new authors: http://www.trivium.net/gillianpolack/csfg.htm

The bad news is that any new features will have to wait till the computer and I have time to argue some more about how I want to do things. I like my new computer in so many ways, but it has a mind of its own.

Enjoy the reading list. I'll try to do one more update before Conflux (computer willing).

One of my sisters says that objects only behave as if they have personalities with me because I treat them as if they do. I can't help thinking that the same principle applies to human beings. Your world can be boring, or it can be fascinating and occasionally frustrating. It's all a matter of outlook (or in this case Firefox and FrontPage and and ftp client).
