Sep. 2nd, 2007 12:53 pmThe last two days have been rather strange. Some things have been very good (time with friends, market, being able to email interview some people I admire for my other blog. Some things are rather bad, like less teaching for next year and, well, other stuff. The yo-yoing between my Regency banquet dress being so close to done and me having to find new sources of income for next year; between a lovely visit to the Farmers' Market and someone close to the family nearly having died in an industrial accident; between... no I'm not going to list everything. Anyhow, all these moodshifts in such a short space of time have put paid to rants. They will come when things settle down, but not today.
Today I have one important question for Canberrans. Since I will only be teaching a very small number of evening courses next year, what are the courses that I really, really, really need to get onto the program? Food history is the obvious first one, as everyone keeps talking about it in my vicinity. How about the others, though?
Courses for writers aren't affected by this cutback since I negotiate them separately with the ACT Writers' Centre - this is only the uni evening courses, which of course means almost everything Medieval. The plethora of Medieval offerings available from September is the last of its kind and if you really want to do those courses, I suggest you enrol now. At most there will be two short Medieval courses in a twelve month period and they'll be the popular ones, not the cool ones. Basically, the ANU is having to cut back on risks to help do the income thing. I can't blame it, but it means some tough choices for myself and my potential students.
