Sep. 12th, 2007 02:33 pmToday is a little fratnic and a little farcical. So many acidents and things that have to be sorted out. Mum is resigned and I'm giggly.
We're well on our way having things ready for tonight, so I'm blogging because I need an excuse to sit down for a bit. We just came back from the last scrap of shopping and from the library. I'm afraid I gave as an excuse for borrowing one book "Because the writer has been known to talk exactly like Biggles." This is an exaggeration, but he did use words like 'spiffing' when I met him. I do read his books in the vain hope that they will creep in there, though I really ought to be ashamed to admit it.
Rosh Hashanah is my excuse to borrow books from a big local library and catch up on reading I should have done three years ago and never got time for. Two third volumes in trilogies, one first volume (since I've read 2 and 3) and stray books that catch the eye.
My sole and single review book might have to wait. I will get round to it soon, though, becuase I owe
girliejones for letting me know that my short story "Horrible Historians" was listed by Dozois as recommended. One recommended story in various 'Best ofs'a year for 3 years and only 5 short stories published (and seven written) in all that time. Maybe I can write short stories after all? No mentions in any Australian lists. Maybe I can only write for certain audiences?
In other news, I have snaffled The Annotated Alice for moments of quiet joy. I need to re-read the footnotes. Something deep inside me requires this activity. Maybe I'll blog one of them? We'll see.
In the meantime, may all of you (whatever your religious belief or state thereof) have a good and sweet New Year. When in doubt, eat lots of honey cake.
