Mar. 17th, 2008 10:11 amToday I do my annual visit to Queen Victoria Building. If you want to find me there, I'll be roaming from 2 pm - 3 pm. Before and after that I'm seeing friends. I've decided to avoid Basement Books, since, if I go in, I will spend the money I'm supposed to be saving. QVB is important. I've tried to visit it every year since I first moved to Sydney (1983). Back then it was almost dead and now it's a luxury shopping centre: the changes are always fascinating. While the changes are fascinating, the proportions are near-perfect. It's a wonderful example of the best of Victorian architecture.
Outside the QVB is one of those giant grumpy statues of Victoria. Every time I visit I want to stand under it and make really bad jokes. I bet she'd crack a smile if I tried hard enough.
