May. 26th, 2008 02:33 pmToday I'm preparing for the big week. Lots of teaching propels me into lots of teaching preparation.
To keep me sane, I did some background stuff on a novel-to-come. I won't be ready to write it for a bit (maybe six months, maybe three years), but I haven't got much language right now (incipient thunderstorm or other drastic weather change) so looking up eighteenth century records is good. Better than writing fiction with so little language that it all needs rewriting next week.
Old records are also fun. If anyone needs the proper wordage for proroguing Parliament in the fourth year of George III's reign, I have them. I also have some nice incidents from regional justice records. Warrants were issued for all sorts of violence (lots of 'that woman hit me with a stick' incidents) but a warrant was not issued to search someone's property for a cask (metal hooped). I do wonder why that warrant was not issued. All speculation gratefully accepted. Strange and silly speculations accepted with especial grace.
Now the fun is over. My eyes are dancing and will keep on their merry way until the weather is fully changed, at which point I do my first set of three lots of teaching notes. At which point my brain probably implodes and I mistakenly incorporate Medieval sex advice in my modern cross-cultural awareness notes.
