Strange wet stuff has been falling from the sky all day. Some of it was snow, but the vast bulk of it was cold, cold rain. I know about the cold, cold rain and the snow because I was stupid enough to walk in it, this afternoon. It didn't make sense to catch a bus the mere half mile to the shops when I so needed the walk and I had been off-colour for most of the week. Now I'm more off-colour, but at least I've earned it this time. Raindrops and snowflakes fell on my head, both at once. It was very unAustralian of them.

There was a simple logic to the afternoon: everything I did went wrong until I met up with Elizabeth. I couldn't find the stuff I needed for the printer at any of the specialist shops: she took me to the newsagents and it was there and on sale. I was grouchy: she stopped and we had hot chocolate. I was in need of comestibles she patiently walked me through all my grocery shopping and didn't stop me buying yellow crunchy dates, but she did stop me buying chips. And we got my birthday present. We'd agreed, back in April, that the gift voucher should be spent on the most miserable day in winter. This was by far that day, what with unwellness and stupidity and weather that ached the bone.

I'll be fine till Spring, once the fever fades. I now have rose lamp oil and a gorgeous scented candle to get me through till my bones stop aching. And, yes, I caught that bus home.
