Aug. 22nd, 2009 02:47 pmThere's a moment in each project where I feel happy. Where something has just come right. I just reached this moment with Baggage. It's almost all together (on time!) and I've fixed the things that were bugging me about the introduction.
Ms Bishop and I have introduced a pretentiousness meter to measure such writing and I think I've read the meter accurately and managed to lose my pretentiousness. Well, maybe only the pretentiousness I subtly interwove into that introduction. My overall level of pretentiousness is healthy. I'd describe it as bombastic, simply because 'bombast' is a good word and is underused. 'Puffery' is also in danger of being forgotten, but I used it three times at Continuum*.
I've managed to include zombies and unicorns in the introduction, but left out ninjas and pirates. I didn't mention either Jane Austen or Twilight, which means that I am so untrendy I need to replace all my black t-shirts with soft pink ones.
*My inner self is demanding I re-read Sheridan. The vocabulary is a dead giveaway. He once gave a three and a half day speech. If anyone's willing to be audience, I could try that instead of re-reading. Just think how much knitting you'd get done! I promise to use 'puffery' and 'bombast' once every three hours.
