Sep. 2nd, 2009 12:15 amThere's a lovely new exhibition at the Canberra Museum and Art Gallery (I really do overuse 'lovely' but in this case I have the catalogue and it's the right word) called "New under the sun: contemporary design in Jewish Ceremony III." It's a travelling exhibition from the Jewish Museum of Australia, which just happens to be where my mother gives tours and I give occasional lectures to guides. This is co-incidence - CMAG had no idea of this when they asked me to give their floortalk.
It's on until 25 October (which includes the Conflux dates) and is definitely worth a look. If you happen to take your look at 12.30 this Thursday, I'm giving a floortalk. I'll be discussing the uses of Jewish ritual objects and showing some ordinary family ones to compare with works of art on exhibition. My talk is free, but space is limited so bookings are essential. You can email cmagbookings@act.gov.au or ring 6207 3968.
If any of you have favourite jokes concerning Jewish ritual objects (not tefillin jokes - I have yet to hear a funny tefillin joke) post it below. If I use it, I promise to tell my audience that it's all your fault.
