I am inspired tonight to write what a friend of mine calls 'a pome.' It's pretty obvious why she calls this style of art 'pomes' and not 'poems.' Unless your mind is on apples, in which case, no, it's not about pomes. Not even earthy ones (you know, pomes de terre)*.

"Twas the week before New Year
And all through the flat
Not a thing was in order
Not even the mat."

I blame [livejournal.com profile] ashr501. Inspiration has to come from somewhere, after all, and he did say 'literary,' yesterday. If one has literary tendencies, then pomes are obviously in order.

Obviously, in a pome about Jewish New Year, the only 'Donner and Blitzen' are the words used when the rubbish bag splits and you have to clean up the mess. Note my clever use of the word 'you' in that sentence. I'm hoping it's someone other than me.

I would finish my piece of high literature while brilliant and original thought still weighs on my brow, but the rubbish needing to go out is rather more urgent. If any of you find my muse, please feel free to steal its inspiration and write a stanza or two for my pleasing pome. If you do, I will excuse you from cleaningup-spilled-garbage duty.

*I recovered my good temper thanks to the efforts of friends**. Aragorn is protecting my George RR Martin books (thanks, Mik!) and there are artichokes on the menu (thanks, Elizabeth!) and I'm about to dine with Yaritji and Karen. Maybe they'll have good ideas for pomes, as well. Damon Runyonish ones about Spring, perhaps.

** Also thanks to a DVD I picked up, containing the first 3 episodes of The Lone Ranger. It made my day to discover that the actor who played Tonto was Canadian. We're not the only country to import heroes!
