Three good things
Sep. 11th, 2009 01:55 pmI not only have full internet access back (at a faster speed than before) but AAPT have kindly provided me with a modem that can handle whatever AAPT throws at it. This is a huge relief.
What's also a huge relief is my washing machine. It's been broken for ages (or so I thought) but right now it seems to be running through a full cycle. If it reaches the end and floods not and stops not partway and gags not and sulks not and says not "I won't work for you, so there", then I won't need to get a new washing machine. The trouble may have been in the hot water tap, not the machine at all. Since I keep saving for a new washing machine and emergencies keep eating that money, this is a huge, huge relief.
The net access lost me much time last week and the washing machine problem combined with the health stuff meant I spent triple the time doing a quarter the housework. Obviously Aragorn and artichokes brought about a change in my fortunes.
And the third good thing? I have 3 months worth of antihistamine that my eczema will actually respond to (it was a compunding chemist in Melbourne who solved that one, not a doctor at all). I've been taking it for 24 hours and it's pure, pure magic. It'll be a few days before things are even half-healed, but the pain levels have already diminished and I can sleep for four hours straight, without developing a reaction to either the bedclothes or my skin.
If all these things stayed solved, then Gillian-the-grump will hide herself in a dark corner. Also, I'll get about 4 more useful hours in every single day. Yep, that's how much time (all added together and then averaged) these problems took out of my life.
They took more than that out of my creativity. I still wrote when everything went wrong. Not writing is not being Gillian. Now, though, it's easier and the writing is better quality - it's as if I've liberated brain and don't have to labour quite so hard. Background pain and background worries do that, every time.
The first thing I shall do with my newfound time is write a street protest about lack of beer. There aren't enough street protests about beer in fantasy fiction.
