May. 14th, 2010 10:13 pmToday was a big day. I've been on the go for nearly 16 hours, with the exception of an hour of gentle collapse mid-afternoon. I only have one more dental appointment (next week - brought forward because it really needed to be) and then all the current crop of dental emergencies are done and sorted. That was first thing this morning (well, first thing after an hour and a quarter of travel and nearly an hour of work). Last thing this evening (just a few minutes ago) a friend offered a very simple and straightforward possible solution to some of my asthma issues (I'm borrowing a different sort of heater to see if it makes a difference if I can keep the bedroom at a constant temperature and to see if the heater will actually fit into said bedroom).
In the middle of my day that began and ended with solutions I made another valiant attempt to get on top of all the reading so that I can vote in the Hugos. I've only got three categories to finish reading and I'm done. I can't spare that much time for it, so I've decided to be finished by the end of the weekend. It's only the equivalent of nine books, after all (stop laughing!). I'm taking notes to help myself remember and I was very surprised to read my notes back and to discover that writers who I normally love got more snark this time round than writers whom I don't. Different works show different sides of the writer, I guess.
Two writers I need to read more of are Felix Gilman and Rachel Swirsky. In fact, I suspect I need a paper copy of Gilman's book. Not to mention a copy of
fjm's Intergalactic Playground. And I've not surprisingly discovered that a bunch of writers I already read, I need to keep reading. I expect my list of books will grow as I keep working through that Hugo packet. Thank goodness. It would be sad if all the good books ran out.
This weekend is all about Coyote Con and about recovering from a rather tough week, so a bit of reading will be good for me. If I can't sit at my computer, then I have borrowed more DVDs so I can vegetate in front of the TV screen and grow well. I'm extraordinarily lucky in my friends' DVD collections and the DVD collections of my friends' significant others and in all of their generosity.
On that sage note I shall read 150 pages and then spend some high quality time in the Stargate universe.
