May. 18th, 2010 08:33 pmToday I'm very thankful for the quirk of mind that meant I stuck with languages when young and that I take research seriously. That combination has saved me vast amounts of time and vast sums of money this week. I have botany over time for the region I want to use as a setting, housing over time, picture postcards covering 100 years and a complete list of name variations used for the region over a period of a thousand years. That was today. Yesterday I managed to get hold of the overview of what climate research is being done in the same place, nice pictures showing the geological makeup of the town in question and a bunch of other stuff. I have to admit, this is way easier than it used to be. Stil, if I dind't know where to look and what to look for and if I didn't have the languages to ahdnle it, finding this background data would still be a pain.
What does this add up to? Less work for me! Now, if only someone had explained that a good undergraduate education was entirely directed at helping me be lazy later in life, I might have pulled all stops out and ended up really, truly educated.
