Today is supposed to be mundane, but it keeps forgetting that. For instance, it just came to me that this is the first time that anyone who has wrestled a kangaroo in his underwear has ever been up for a Ditmar. Part of the et al for the Conflux Banquet is the chef, who is rather well-known for this feat. I wonder if anyone will refuse to vote for the banquet for the same reason they dislike the idea of a fannish cat ie SF should be serious. If they do, I want to take them to the hotel and let them tell the Swiss chef personally that they think he isn't serious.

Also, I have a bit of my teaching back and promptly ordered my time travel manual. I need that time travel manual, but couldn't afford it. It struck me when I realised who the author was that there's something very odd about Australia. Canberra has a time travel expert and Adelaide has the person who wrote the time travel manual... (one of the two will definitely be at AussieCon - I don't know about the other.)

I was woken up by a call from the Electoral Commission wanting to know why I had commented to someone in a phone query about where I could vote without walking forever and uphill to get there that there was nowhere within reasonable walking distance to vote. She kept thinking that I was saying that there was no polling booth in the electorate of Chifley and tried to prove me wrong. But Chifley isn't in Chifley, Chifley is in Canberra. The electorate of Canberra and the city of Canberra. And there is, indeed, no polling booth in Chifley. I talked her through the closure of Chifley Primary School and I talked her through the Canberra bus service and I talked her through the fact that I really don't want a postal vote, but thank you very much. I'll be voting in Fraser, because it's easier to do that than to vote in Canberra. Also it means I get coffee with Kaaron Warren. She took note of this (not the coffee with Kaaron Warren bit, the rest of it) and is forwarding it upwards as an issue to be addressed.

The rest of my day will be normal. I've given it strict instructions to that effect.
