Aug. 13th, 2010 03:06 pmI haven't received a single how to vote card or party leaflet in my letterbox this election. We have a possibly swinging Senate seat (and possibly not a swinging Senate seat) and no-one has tried to convince me that they're in need of my vote! Neglect. That's what it is.
This lack of paper in my letterbox is a source of great sadness to me. I normally gather all the wonderful political statements and promises and embarrassing quotes and send them to a victim. No, cut that last word. Pretend you didn't read it. I normally make up a care package for a non-Australian friend who needs to be informed. Not a victim at all, but a well-educated person on the other side of the world who has an urgent need to be even more well-educated. Only one friend has ever received the leaflets twice.
The collection this year may be limited to what I collect at the polling booth, but the last recipient has hinted (with dire warnings attached - the hints were not subtle) that she really doesn't want to be the vic...the receiver-of-important-papers this time round. If there is anyone who would be delighted to receive a small amount of Australian electioneering material, email me at the usual place (or via LJ if you don't know the usual place) with a snail mail address. If you're coming to AussieCon I can bring it with me.
