Dec. 3rd, 2009 08:16 pmI have a review book I'm determined to finish. It's determined to give me nightmares. This review process is turning into an epic struggle.
The length isn't an issue, nor is the subject matter. The author is someone trusted and true. The novel itself will probably turn out to be excellent, when I can get far enough into it.
The problem is the cover. If anyone reading this has any input into covers, if someone in your vicinity has the brilliant idea of creating a part-velvet/part-shiny paperback, discourage them. Please. Maybe shut them up in a cupboard til the mood is past?
Every time I pick the book up, I wince at the feel. Every time I turn a page, I wince at the feel. Right now, just talking about it, I wince at the feel.
I shall prevail. Probably not tonight, though. The weather is changing and my fingers are tingling. That and the eerie cover do not promise to be a good combination. Tomorrow, then, I shall prevail.
